The Adoption Specialist works to strengthen children and resource families by moving children to permanency through adoption, while preserving connections to family and community.ru003cbru003eru003cbru003e*Mandated reporterru003cbru003e*Receives training in trauma informed practice and incorporates knowledge inru003cbru003eday to day practice.ru003cbru003e*Ability to work flexible schedule including on-callru003cbru003e*Understanding of family centered practice, genograms, ecomaps, and social historiesru003cbru003e*Understanding of the child welfare and state systemru003cbru003e*Ability to engage families in working relationshipru003cbru003e*Understanding of child and adolescent developmentru003cbru003e*Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skillsru003cbru003e*Ability to travel throughout the Stateru003cbru003e*Consistently exercises discretion and independent judgment in performance of duties in conformance with applicable policies, procedures, statutes, rules and regulationsru003cbru003e*Ability to work with minimal supervisionru003cbru003e*Handles multiple prioritiesru003cbru003e*Independent discretion/decision making within the scope and responsibility of the positionru003cbru003e*Manages emotions and is able to make decision under pressureru003cbru003e*Manages stress appropriatelyru003cbru003e*Works alone effectivelyru003cbru003e*Works in close proximity to others and/or in a distracting environmentru003cbru003e*Works with others effectively/teamworkru003cbru003e*Ability to work with diverse populationru003cbru003e*Understands and practices Universal Precautionsru003cbru003eru003cbru003e*Assists/and or completes the assessment of children for adoptive placementru003cbru003e*Assists/and or completes the updating social histories for children with a goal of adoptionru003cbru003e*Assists /and or completes relative, kin and resource family searches to identify resources for adoptive placementru003cbru003e*Assists adoptive family with adoption Placement Agreement and adoption subsidy, finalization, and post finalization paper work and processesru003cbru003e*Provides counseling for children and resource families regarding moves, grief, separation and loss issues related to adoptionru003cbru003e*Completing necessary documentation and works to identify/select an adoptive familyru003cbru003e*Participates in supervisory conferences and team meetings, sharing pertinent information about children/families’ progress, collateral contacts and relationships with other agencies/communitiesru003cbru003e*Completes reports for court and participates in court proceedings as neededru003cbru003e*Completes and maintains written documentation in child/family’s case record accurately and within established time framesru003cbru003e*Develops and implements case plans for children’s permanency goals with children for adoption timelinesru003cbru003e*Completes on-going assessment of childrenru003cbru003e*Assists adoptive families through the adoption processru003cbru003e*Supports resource families to maintain placements and help children work toward permanencyru003cbru003e*Assists in completing all documentation and paperwork relative to adoption subsidy and finalizationru003cbru003e*Reports critical incidents to DCF verbally within 12 hours, written within 24 hoursru003cbru003e*Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels. ru003cbru003e*Ensures clients’ rights are protected. ru003cbru003e*Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety proceduresru003cbru003e*Implements SFCS policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent SFCS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, regulations, and contractual terms
