Profile

Description Responsible for administratively managing a large or complex University program or multiple programs. Provides input in the development of program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Typically supervises small staffs and are responsible for long range planning. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, grant and report writing. May handle regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions and identify research funding. May handle event planning and oversight of construction projects.u00a0 Summary: The School of Medicine (SOM) is seeking to hire a ProgramManager II as an experienced, highly motivated student affairs professional inthe Office for Diversity and Inclusion u2013 Student Affairs. Applicants shouldhave demonstrated interpersonal and support skills and able to support studentsuccess with a background in student affairs, student academic support and/orstudent services. Applicants will need to demonstrate effective communicationskills, both written and verbal as well have a proven track record ofrelationship building with students. The Program Manager II will providesupport and leadership for diversity and inclusion activities in concert withthe Office of Medical Student Services for student advocacy, mentoring andadvising, leadership development, academic enrichment, student programming aspart of the team to ensure full support of our medical students. Successfulcandidates should be self-starters who have implemented programs and who areready to hit the ground running. Must be willing to support a robust,professional learning environment inclusive to all. The Program Manager II willreport to the Assistant Dean for Medical Student Diversity and Inclusion andwork in a dynamic partnership with the Office of Medical Student Services. Responsibilities: u00b7 Providesupport and leadership for diversity and inclusion activities under the seniorleadership of the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and in concertwith the Office of Medical Student Services for student advocacy, mentoring andadvising, leadership development, academic enrichment, and student programming u00b7 Advise andmanage the Student Advisory Board to the Office for Diversity and Inclusion -Student Affairs. Play a vital role inhelping implement a Faculty Advisory Board pipeline, and moderate CareerAdvising Dinners with current underrepresented medical students, house staff,faculty and external key stakeholders u00b7Participatein student event planning and execution with the Office for Medical StudentServices, including but not limited to new student orientation, white coatceremony, Argus Awards, Best Medicine Show, match day and commencement u00b7 Demonstrateeffective time management skills u00b7 Act in acaring and courteous manner in the following ways: use positive interpersonalskills to alleviate concerns and frustrations of students, other staff, andfaculty; to provide assistance in a timely manner; reference appropriateprocedures in calm and courteous manner; acts always in a professional andconfidential manner with respect to all information and records u00b7 Ethicalconduct is a fundamental expectation for every UAB community member. Allemployees must abide by the standards of behavior outlined in the UABEnterprise Code of Conduct. Behaviorsinconsistent with the Code may result in appropriate consequences u00b7 Performsother related duties as directed to support the mission of the SOM u00a0 Expected annual salary range: $52,228.80 - $82,867.20 Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.u00a0More specifically, position requires a Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with 5 years of progressively responsible experience in program coordination and/or student affairs. Computer skills in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint preferred, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills required. All work performed must be in accordance with SOM and UAB policies and procedures and UAB Enterprise Code of Conduct.
