### Responsibilities

The person selected for this position will serve as an electrical engineer in a developmental capacity on a multidisciplinary engineering team that performs design, development, and installation activities for the Center's NAS laboratories. These laboratories support research and development and/or test and evaluation of current and proposed NAS systems for the FAA.

You will perform a variety of assignments provided by a supervisor or lead with a view to career development related to the design, development, and installation of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure the supports the Center's NAS laboratories. You will use a range of principles, concepts, terminology, techniques, and methods of electrical engineering with knowledge of the functionality of electrical systems, and apply this knowledge in a developmental capacity to the type of work performed in the Laboratory Engineering Branch.

Duties may include but are not limited to: 1) Installing or reinstalling equipment in lab environment. 2) Preparing written reports on system capabilities. 3) Testing and debugging modifications for specific programs. 4) Executing the engineering design and integration of a variety of electrical and mechanical components in the laboratory environment.

If you a selected for this position at the payband H, you will perform the duties above with more complexity and less supervision.

Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.

Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1)be in a school of engineering with at least 1 curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2)include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than 1st year physics & chemistry) in 5 of these 7 areas of engineering science or physics:(a)statics, dynamics;(b)strength of materials;(c)fluid mechanics, hydraulics;(d)thermodynamics;(e)electrical fields and circuits;(f)nature and properties of materials; and (g)any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1)a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2)a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. THE ADEQUACY OF SUCH BACKGROUND MUST BE DEMONSTRATED BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; OR evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam, or the written test required for professional registration; OR successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences AND in engineering that included the courses specified in paragraph 1; OR successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, provided the applicant had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision.

To qualify for this position at the payband G, you must have a professional engineering degree as stated above.

To qualify for this position at the payband H, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the payband G, GS/FG-5/7/9 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but not limited to:

Specialized experience may include but not limited to: experience supporting the design, development and sustainment of an electrical infrastructure for a technical laboratory environment or similar environment.


3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education must be directly related to the position.
