The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.

Job Summary:
The Director of Culture, Diversity & Inclusion develops, leads and collaborates with partners and leaders to execute strategic objectives to help bring to life Allina Health’s commitment to providing and enhancing a thriving workplace and a culture where all feel safe and included, respected and empowered to fulfill our important mission.
This leader will drive critical focus areas as a Whole Person Care culture catalyst: evolving our strategies for engaging a diverse and inclusive workforce.
While positioned within Human Resources Department, this leader will collaborate to lead change across 4 domains: Patients, Workforce, Community and Vendors.
This position is responsible for engaging system stakeholders to set the vision and strategy to:
Recruit, retain and promote a *diverse workforce and governance that reflects the populations we serve (partnering with Health Equity to align information and efforts),
Cultivate an inclusive work environment where *diversity is embraced, developed and where all of our employees are participants/contributors and have equal opportunity to reach their potential,
Drive the alignment of critical components of changing culture (communication, continuity, content, commitment and consequences),
Develop cultural competency curriculum to build employee skills for providing care that is responsive whole person care dimensions of dimensions of culture, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and ability. (included, but not limited to Intercultural agility/competency, implicit bias, inclusion, harassment/discrimination), and
Bring to life our culture of “Whole Person Care for You”, particularly helping employees build healthier relationships with colleagues so that all foster a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
*Diversity is defined as the intersections of unique talents, skills, and perspectives from one’s distinct culture, race, ethnicity, gender, age, socio-economic class, religion/spirituality, abilities, gender identity, sexual orientation, education, and life experience.
The position reports to the Vice President, Talent and Organization Development. In addition, this person will interact with senior leaders from all functions and businesses at the local and system wide level as well as interact and represent Allina Health with multiple external constituencies including U.S. Government Agencies and a variety of Professional Organizations/Affiliations.
Key Responsibilities:
Creates compelling and engaging strategies that help leaders and employees actualize the benefits of inclusion for self, colleagues, those served (not everyone serves patients) and the organization.
Owns strategy development for diversity and inclusion, including governance, policies, process, and action plans.
Create a framework and narrative to articulate the value proposition for diversity and inclusion as an asset and business imperative.
Engage system stakeholders to design, execute and evaluate an organization-wide strategic plan which outlines the shared vision, objectives, and measures of success for creating a culture of diversity/inclusion.
Shapes solutions that draw the connections between diversity and inclusion and the organization’s overall mission, vision, business model and commitments to 1) Whole Person Care 2) Safety, and 3) Health Equity.
Leverages external benchmarks (including, but not limited to Institute for Diversity in Health Management).
Partners with HR Business Partners, Health Equity and site leaders to respond to issues that are D&I-related, and to strengthen the behaviors and culture that enable Allina Heath to proactively prevent racial discrimination and sexual harassment.
Partners with Talent Acquisition Team to drive a diverse talent pipeline.
Enables an inclusive talent pipeline through key partnerships (TA, CB&E, HRBP, L&D)
Identifies current and future needs and trends, shaping business and the evolution of innovative future talent acquisition, development and retention solutions around diversity and inclusion.
Effectively collaborates with leaders on programs and initiatives to improve recruitment, development and retention of a high-performing diverse and inclusive workforce; assist with integrating D&I strategy into workforce strategy.
Responsible for Affirmative Action Plans enterprise-wide.
Manages the company’s compliance to regulations enforced by the OFCCP and other applicable federal and state agencies.
Oversees our affirmative action / equal opportunity compliance programs.
Interprets EEO trends and overall diversity data; partners with HR Business Partners in the development of specific actionable plans with clear accountability and metrics to address any gaps.
Develops metrics to drive desired outcomes that are specific to the business needs and culturally appropriate. Prepares Allina Health Executive Committee and Board of Director Reports, including metrics, ROI, accomplishments, as well as future activities and strategies.
Responsible to raise visibility & profile of D&I by communicating how it is leveraged to business outcomes and to support employees.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field; advanced degree is preferred.
The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

8-years of progressive experience in diversity and inclusion
Proven ability to think strategically & creatively around D&I’s application to HR, business units, and organizational business priorities; has successfully created and led an innovative D&I strategy or other change management initiative.
Strong writing and speaking/presentation skills.
Excellent partnering skills: works collaboratively, effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers, partners and other stakeholders.
Business acumen, analytical skills, reliability and sound judgment.
Action orientation, attention to detail, project management, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience operating within a large, complex, matrixed organization is preferred.
Healthcare background is preferred
