The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Diversity and Faculty Development. This position is located on the Statesboro campus but will serve all three campuses.


Georgia Southern University is the state's largest and most comprehensive center of higher education south of Atlanta. Position Description. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Diversity and Faculty Development is an administrative position with the option of faculty rank.


Responsibilities include the following:


* responsible for guiding efforts to conceptualize, define, assess, nurture, and cultivate diversity and inclusion across three campuses;


* collaborates with deans, campus leaders, students, and other key stakeholders to identify institutional priorities and short-term objectives that align with the University's strategic goals and enhance the institution's reputation;


* provides subject-matter expertise related to emerging diversity and inclusion issues throughout the University and local communities;


* develops a cohesive narrative of what inclusive excellence and diversity mean at Georgia Southern and works with other leaders to communicate this vision consistently within the University and beyond that supports a safe, welcoming, and inclusive institutional climate;


* designs and coordinates programs on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice that engage the institutional community and incorporates with learning in both the formal and informal educational environment;


* conducts periodic environmental assessments and establishes and leverages key metrics to demonstrate both quantitative and qualitative progress toward a climate of inclusion; and


* provides evidence-based insight to support diversity and inclusion.


The position is a fiscal year (12 month) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Required Qualifications:


* Earned master's degree (and/or higher) in a related discipline, such as: multicultural education, higher education, human services, women's studies, ethnic studies, disability studies.


* Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in initiating, managing, and supporting programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


* Ability to develop a clear vision and strategy consistent with the University's mission and best practices.


* Ability to research, develop, and deliver diversity related training programs.


* Demonstrated leadership skills that result in the production of high-quality services and exceptional standards.


* Strategic thinking and transformational leadership with the capability of contributing at the senior administrative level and leading other leaders.


* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that reflect effective listening and authentic engagement with individuals at all levels.


* Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build community.


* Ability to facilitate and sustain a culture of trust and confidence.


* Knowledge of contemporary issues of inclusion, social justice, diversity, access, and equity, including the current scholarship and pedagogical approaches that inform and address these issues.


* Understand of laws, regulations, and policies related to equity and diversity in higher education.


* Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution


Preferred Qualifications:


* Earned terminal degree in a related field strongly preferred.


* Minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education at a comprehensive institution.
