Summary

The Information Security & Privacy (IS&P) Service manages security risk through development and delivery of end-to-end IT security services including: IT security policy, standards and best practices, security architecture and engineering, security operations and response, and privacy management. IS&P manages these services ensuring security and privacy of the service customer’s environment including compliance with FAA and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

We lead the development of stakeholder outreach and aviation cybersecurity information sharing model in the Aviation Ecosystem. We develop voluntary standards and non-regulatory mechanisms and government-industry collaboration through the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) and other entities. We conduct and support cybersecurity and Aviation Ecosystem-related engagements with other federal agencies such as; the Office of Security Hazardous Materials Safety (ASH), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and various industry groups including; Airlines for America (A4A), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).

If selected for this position you will provide technical oversight and project management of aviation cybersecurity risk assessments, including studies and assessments for the Aviation Ecosystem. You will provide technical oversight to the cyber security risk related to airline systems.

You will use your expertise and experience related to airline operations to identify cyber risk introduced by processes and procedures used to conduct the day to day business. You will use your knowledge of airline management, including general aviation, air freight/cargo, and military aviation systems and operations to identify current activities, trends, and potential cyber risk. You will prepare presentations and briefings on the cyber risk related to airline systems, operations, and management to identify trends and future concerns/issues.

Additional duties may include but are not limited to:

Identifies, coordinates, and resolves technical and policy issues in the Aviation Ecosystem; elevating issues as needed to AIS management and the Cybersecurity Steering Committee.

Directly supports the AIS Director and Deputy Director in internal and external engagement activities for the Aviation Ecosystem. This includes FAA leadership, the Cybersecurity Steering Committee, Aviation Government Coordinating Council, Aviation Sector Coordination Council, Interagency Core Cyber Team, International Civil Aviation Organization, and several others.

Conducts research and analysis of cross-cutting aviation cybersecurity technical and policy issues. Incumbent develops, evaluates, and implements new aviation cybersecurity policies, processes, and procedures.

The person selected for this position will work across the IS&P domains of Security Governance, Compliance, Operations and Privacy in technical and non-technical risk activities for the Aviation Ecosystem. This includes working across the agency, with the Air Traffic Organization, NextGen, Office of Aviation Safety, Office of Security and Hazardous Materials Safety, Office of Airports, and others, the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and other agencies within the Administration, in technical and non-technical risk activities for the Aviation Ecosystem.
